During this 10 day span, more than 1000 synchronized swimmers from across the country will be competing at the King County Aquatic Centre for National titles in Solo, Duet, Trio, and the ultimate synchro event, Team.
Synchronized swimming — called “synchro” by those in the know — is a blend of meticulously coordinated acrobatics, swimming, and dance. Synchro requires tremendous grace, core strength, flexibility, breath control, split-second timing, and endurance. Don’t be deceived by the glitzy performance and lipsticked smiles on the athletes’ faces — this sport is anything but easy.
According the USOC, high level synchronized swimming teams practice more than any other sport. Between eight and ten hours a day, six days a week, and the first squad selected for each Olympics is the synchronized swim team, they train together longer than any other athletes prior to an Olympic competition.
This meet is the conclusion of the synchro season for most young swimmers, who have been training and competing at progressively higher levels for the last 10 months to qualify for a spot at this meet. Future olympians, national team members, and college champions have all competed at Age Group Nationals, and this is a great opportunity to see some of the top talent in our country and cheer them on!
The public is welcome to attend all of the events. Single day ($10) and entire event admission tickets ($25) may be purchased on-line at our website www.synchro2014nationals.org, or at the door, cash only.
